Supporting 50 Children — 25  Girls & 25 Boys

Every Monday evening, children and young people in Takoradi come together for Brigade practice. They arrive in the clothes they have, ready to learn, practise and participate.

They are already committed. They are already doing the work.

Sadly, when it is time to march, perform or represent their Brigade publicly, some children cannot take their place simply because their families cannot afford the required uniform.

For these children, a Brigade uniform means much more than clothing. It means belonging, dignity, confidence and the opportunity to participate equally.

This is particularly important for girls. Brigade activities provide a safe, structured environment where girls can develop confidence, teamwork, discipline, responsibility and leadership. Providing their uniforms also removes an expense from mothers and caregivers already struggling to meet essential household needs.

A Gift That Keeps Giving

The children treasure their uniforms. They are carefully washed by hand, dried and ironed, sometimes using a borrowed iron. When a child outgrows a uniform that is still in good condition, it can be passed down to a younger Brigade member.

One uniform can therefore help more than one child.

Our Goal

Aid Assist Ghana already supports these children where possible, including providing drinking water and a small snack during evening activities when funds allow.

The children do not need encouragement to attend — they are already turning up every Monday.

They simply need the opportunity to stand proudly beside their friends.

How the Project Will Be Managed

 Your donation can start helping before the full A$5,000 is raised.

The project will be overseen locally by a three-person committee, including the Boys’ Brigade Captain, providing local supervision and accountability throughout the purchasing and uniform-making process.

The uniforms will be individually made in Takoradi, rather than purchased as ready-made uniforms. Approximately 50% of the project funding will be required for the purchase of fabric, with the remaining funds used for the other uniform items and tailoring.

Prices in Ghana can increase rapidly. For this reason, we do not intend to wait until the entire A$5,000 has been raised before purchasing the fabric.

As donations are received, funds will be progressively used to purchase the required fabric at the best available local prices. This helps protect the project from price increases while allowing every donation to begin contributing towards the uniforms.

Once sufficient fabric has been secured and the required funding is available, the uniforms will be individually measured, made and fitted for the children.

Every A$500 raised brings us another step closer. Rather than allowing donations to sit unused while prices rise, funds can be put to work securing materials for the children.
